Four Weeks Before: Polishing and Memorization

Ensure the piece is securely memorized at least three weeks prior to the recital date.

Practice starting from multiple landmark spots in the score—not just from measure one—so a momentary lapse does not derail the performance.

One Week Before: Mock Performances

Stage practice recitals at home in front of family members or stuffed animals. Perform in the shoes and outfit planned for recital day.

Practice walking to the piano, adjusting the bench distance, taking a calm breath before playing, and taking a graceful bow afterwards.

Recital Day: Calm Focus and Celebration

Arrive 15 minutes early to acclimate to the acoustics and see the recital instrument.

Focus on sharing the music with the audience rather than mechanical perfection. Celebrate the courage and dedication represented by the performance.
