How to Join MTNA and PMTNM
A step-by-step guide to becoming a member of the national and state music teachers associations.
The dual membership structure
Membership in the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico (PMTNM) is processed concurrently with membership in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). When you join, you pay dues for both the national organization and the state affiliate in a single transaction.
Depending on where you live and teach, you may also choose to join a local chapter (such as the Albuquerque MTA or Santa Fe MTA), which may have its own nominal dues. Local chapters provide the most direct community interaction.
The application process
The easiest way to join is through the national MTNA website (mtna.org). Select the "Membership" section and follow the prompts for new members. You will be asked to provide your contact information, teaching credentials, and the primary instrument you teach.
During the application, you will select New Mexico as your state affiliate. The system will automatically calculate your total dues based on your selections and membership category (Active, Senior, Collegiate, or Patron).
Getting involved as a new member
Once your membership is processed, you will receive welcome materials from MTNA and PMTNM. To get the most out of your membership, immediately reach out to your local chapter president and attend the next meeting.
