PMTNM Teacher Profile & Directory: Quick Reference

PMTNM Teacher Profile & Directory: Quick Reference

This updated reference reflects the current PMTNM profile screen. It covers how to update your teacher profile, enable your directory listings, set contact and membership preferences, and verify your listing.

1 – Sign in and open your profile

Go to pmtnm.org and log in using your PMTNM credentials.

Select My Profile from the navigation menu to access your teacher profile page.

2 – Update your studio information

Enter or edit your studio address (street, city, state, ZIP).

Provide a public email address and phone number for the directory. These may differ from your login email.

Include a website if you have one. This link will be visible in your listing.

3 – Control your public listing

At the top of the profile form you’ll see a checkbox labelled “Show my contact information in the online member directory.”

Check this box if you want your address, email and phone to appear in the public PMTNM directory. This is the listing visible to prospective students and parents searching for teachers.

Leave it unchecked if you prefer not to publish your contact details. You can still share resources and lists without being in the public directory.

After making changes, click Save Profile below the form to apply them.

Certification note: PMTNM’s public directory is intended for teachers who are Nationally Certified Teachers of Music (NCTM). The site notes that you must appear on the MTNA public website to be listed publicly.

4 – Set contact topic preferences

Below the profile form is a section titled “How I’d Like to Be Contacted.” Here you can indicate which topics you are open to discussing with other PMTNM members. Each card has an icon and description; click a card to toggle it on or off. Options include:

Business Opportunities – networking, studio collaborations, referrals.

Coffee/Lunch Meetups – casual in‑person meetings about teaching and music.

Online Collaboration – virtual meetings, masterclasses and consultations.

PMTNM Questions – organization topics, events and membership questions.

MTNA Questions – certification processes and professional development.

Teaching Resources – sharing pedagogy materials, recommending music.

Brainstorming Sessions – creative problem‑solving and idea sharing.

Click Save Contact Preferences after selecting your topics. In the member directory, small icons will appear on your contact card to show other teachers the topics you’re willing to discuss.

5 – Manage membership preferences

Further down the page you’ll find Membership Preferences with toggle switches:

Email Updates – receive announcements and resource updates via email.

Directory Visibility – allow your name and email to appear in the member directory (visible only to logged‑in PMTNM members). This is distinct from the public contact information checkbox at the top.

Resource Tagging – permit other members to tag you in resources and collaborative materials.

Turn each toggle on or off according to your preference and click Save Preferences.

6 – Verify your listing

In the top navigation, select Teacher Directory. Depending on your visibility settings, you may see two directories: a public directory (viewable by anyone) and a member directory (for logged‑in members).

Use the search and filters to locate your own listing. Confirm that your contact details and preferred contact icons display correctly.

If something is missing or incorrect, return to My Profile, adjust the settings (contact information, checkbox, toggles and topics) and save again. Changes may take a few minutes to update.

7 – Encourage meaningful contact

Be specific: In your profile description (if available), mention instruments taught, levels accepted and any openings in your studio. This helps prospective students decide whether to contact you.

Select relevant topics: The contact preference icons give peers a quick way to understand what you’re willing to discuss. Choose the ones that reflect your interests.

Stay current: Revisit your profile periodically to update your contact information and preferences. An accurate, well‑maintained profile fosters trust and encourages parents, students and colleagues to reach out.

By following these steps and keeping your preferences up to date, you ensure that your PMTNM profile accurately reflects how—and why—you want to be contacted.
