Get Involved: Join the Nominating Committee
PMTNM needs dedicated members like you to serve on the Nominating Committee. This vital role helps shape the future of our organization by identifying and recruiting qualified candidates for leadership positions.
What is the Nominating Committee?
The Nominating Committee plays a crucial role in PMTNM's governance structure. As stated in our official handbook:
"A Nominating Committee shall be appointed by the President. The committee shall consist of the Immediate Past President who shall serve as chair and two members-at-large." — PMTNM Handbook, Article VI: Nominations and Elections, Section 1
Committee Responsibilities
According to the PMTNM Handbook, the Nominating Committee has several important duties:
1. Identify Qualified Candidates
Work collaboratively to identify PMTNM members who demonstrate strong leadership qualities, commitment to music education, and the ability to serve in key organizational roles.
2. Prepare the Slate of Nominees
The handbook specifies that officers to be elected include:
- President
- Vice President
- Six District Vice Presidents
- Certification Chair
All officers may be eligible for re-election for a second one-year term, and for subsequent terms.
3. Meet Critical Deadlines
"This committee shall prepare a roster of candidates at least 30 days prior to the opening date of the annual conference, and it shall be presented to the Executive Secretary-Treasurer 15 days prior to the annual conference." — PMTNM Handbook, Article VI, Section 2
4. Support the Democratic Process
The Nominating Committee's work ensures that members have qualified candidates to choose from during the annual conference business meeting. The committee's recommendations, along with any nominations from the floor, are submitted for vote by the membership.
